The main job of our brain is to receive information sent from the rest of the body, analyze that information, then guide the body through a response to the situation. The types of data that is interpreted by the brain are odors, light, sound, or pain. The brain is also what controls some very important operations in the body such as breathing and regulating/maintaining blood pressure.
There are three main sections in the brain. These sections each have their own function. The cerebellum coordinates our muscles' actions and helps us balance. The cerebrum carries out the mental process, controls our skeletal muscles, and interprets the imput from our senses. Finally, the brainstem controls lots of the body functions that happen automatically.
Spinal Cord
The spinal cord is a long, thin tubular bundle of nerves tissue and support cells. All nerves in our bodies have branched out from the spinal cord. This is why it is very bad to break your back. However, the spinal cord is covered by the vertebra protecting it from some, but not all, harm.
