Function: Neurons
Neurons
Neurons' function in the nervous system is to send signals throughout the body to instruct different cells to preform a certain action. The process starts when the neurons send signals through axons which will cause a chemical called neurotransmitters to be released at synapses. Synapses will then command a cell to preform the action. This entire process only takes a fraction of a millisecond.
There are different types of neurons. Each has it's own unique function.
Sensory Neurons and Motor Neurons
Sensory neurons have to do with your sense of touch. They react to light and sound. These neurons will sense what is happening around you then send a message to the central nervous system about your surroundings. Motor neurons then send back a command having to with what was seen, felt or heard.
